Young Scientists Emerge From Fairfax Homes

Kids from Fairfax homes delve into the realm of science. At the Children’s Science Center exhibits based on the science, technology, engineering and math blend with youngster’s imaginations. Learning is easy when it is fun and guests become engaged as soon as they walk through the center’s doors.

In the Lab Bar science comes to life. Step up and into the role of chemist, biologist and physicist. The Inspiration Hub houses the very popular Armstrong Robotic Arm. Lines form for taking a turn at operating this incredible machine. Uncover the magic of the seas with Aquatic Life and Symbiotic Seas. These exhibits highlight the ocean’s amazing creatures such as lined seahorses, clown fish, sea anemone and sea urchins. Lucky spectators may even get a glimpse of a seahorse feeding.

Imaginations Flow Freely when Living in Fairfax

Special events are always marked on the calendar. Early learning programs open up new worlds for preschoolers from Fairfax homes. Story times stimulate the minds and "budding bookworms" adds elements of science into their tales. A new theme is showcased every week for "budding scientists" and their parents. Family Science Nights get the whole family thinking. These are memory making moments that won’t soon be forgotten.

The Children’s Science Center is devoted to the local community. As part of an effort to give back, field trips provide no cost visits for qualifying schools. The Latina SciGirls program offers classes based in STEM principles to Latina girls in grades 3rd to 6th. Affordable summer and winter day camps keep kids occupied while they are out of school. Other community programs include NOVA STEM day, Malloween, Kids Nights Out and Noon Year’s Eve.

Hours to the center are 10 to 6 everyday making spontaneous trips a reality. General admission is only $13.00 with discounts for seniors and active members of the military. Children under 2 years of age are admitted for free. Many young families living in Fairfax take advantage of the museum's resources by becoming members. Memberships feature complimentary admission, member only hours and events as well as additional discounts.

Art and Culture Surround Manassas Property

Manassas property overflows with art and culture. At the center of creative efforts is the Hylton Performing Arts Center. A state of the art facility, this venue hosts an array of performances from dance, music, theater and more. Two theaters provide very different experiences.

Larger than life performances are held in the impressive Merchant Hall. With seating for over 1,000 audience members, folks enjoy productions in a grand scale. A more intimate setting is appreciated in the Gregory Family Theater. Accommodating groups of just under 250 people this auditorium is perfect for viewing chamber groups, cabaret, dance and other special events. Local artists are highlighted in the center as well. Located in the second floor lobby, the Buchanan Partners Art Gallery displays efforts from regional and local talent. These rotating exhibits are inspiring to patrons of the arts and up and coming artists living in Manassas.

The Drama is Real when Living in Manassas

While big scale events are held on a regular basis, many take advantage of the more intimate Matinee Idylls series. A select number of performances are paired with luncheons catered by popular gourmet restaurants combining for a lovely experience. After the show, audience members indulge in light refreshments and interact with the artists.

The Hylton Performing Arts Center works off of a mission of giving back. Determined to “entertain, educate and enrich the North Virginia community,” a variety of programs are designed to support the community. The Veterans and the Arts program exposes United States Veterans to the wonderful world of the arts. Performances, programs, classes, workshops and other special events mark the calendar each year. The Potomac Point Vineyard and Winery is open Tuesday through Sunday. Those falling in love with Potomac Point and their wines can join the Wine Club.
